Since her mother left for Mazar, and after Parvana’s father’s death, Parvana felt that something wasn’t right and that she needed to find her mother. Parvana is courageous because she was able to take risks and challenges to find her mother. Parvana is caring as she is trying her best to help others. This shows, Parvana wants to take care of three people and doing their needs while putting her’s aside. She later encountered two children without parents.

She tried her best to provide all the needs to the baby, such as giving food and water, or a bath. Parvana felt the pain and was sad and decided to bring the baby along. Parvana is caring because, when she was on her journey to find her mother, she found a baby, without a family or a caregiver.

This shows Parvana is brave as she is making hard decision in her life. This shows, she knew that she was the only hope for the whole family and she needed to take difficult steps in order to support her family. She didn’t want to do it and preferred her actual appearance more.

For example, Parvana decided to cut off her hair and wear boy’s clothes. The Taliban does not allow women to be in the streets without a man.

Men are the primary source for the families in Afghanistan and are in charge for buying food, water and working in a job. Parvana’s father, the only man in their family, was taken away from their home by the Taliban soldiers, Parvana knew they couldn’t live.
